Toward an Integrative Urban Ecology: Voices from the IGERTs

Description:

“The term “urban ecology” was coined in the 1930s by sociologists Robert
Park and Peter Burgess, who were applying ecological concepts and theory
to human behavior. Urban ecology has more recently become in vogue, with
scientists pushing an interdisciplinary approach to studies of the city.
Currently, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is demonstrating its
commitment to innovative directions in urban ecological research through
the creation and funding of two Integrative Graduate Education,
Research, and Training (IGERT) programs in urban ecology, one at Arizona
State University (ASU) and the other at the University of Washington at
Seattle (UW)."
