GMO transgenes in Mexican maize
Matt Hufford and teosinte
Matthew Hufford, an unidentified Mexican researcher, and teosinte, the progenitor of Mexican landraces of maize. Maize landraces have been developed to adapt to highly localized climatological and edaphic conditions. The confirmation of the presence of transgenes from genetically modified corn within maize genomes may disrupt centuries of selection for landrace characteristics that have been culturally and nutritionally important to Mexican agriculturalists.
