Effects of metal dispersion on observed first-order rate constant (kobs) at 453 K, 2600 rpm, 5.5 MPa H2, for Pd catalysts supported on Al2O3, SiO2, and BaSO4. Circles denote Al2O3 -supported catalysts prepared by different techniques. The solid line shows the relationship expected from the baseline Pd/Al2O3. The dashed lines show the range of variation calculated from the precision of the dispersion measurement. Note that only two catalysts fall above the upper dashed line, neither by a large margin. The situation is similar for carbon-supported catalysts.
