Internship Experiences Offer New and Opportunities for Trainees
IGERT Trainee interns at the USEPA’s Indoor Environments Division (IED) and the Office of Children’s Health Protection (OCHP) in Washington, D.C.
Trainees of the National Science Foundation’s Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program in Indoor Environmental Science and Engineering at The University of Texas (UT) each completes a one semester internship at a host institution. During these internships trainees (1) generate new ideas relevant to their dissertation research, (2) work on interdisciplinary teams, (3) complete research using unique facilities, and (4) make professional contacts that will serve them in the years after they receive their Ph.D. degree. One trainee, Sonny Rosenthal, interned at the USEPA’s Indoor Environments Division (IED) and the Office of Children’s Health Protection (OCHP) in Washington, D.C., where he engaged in a wide range of activities relevant to his dissertation research in science communication. In this image, Sonny (third from left in second row – curly hair) poses with IED and EPA regional contacts at the annual Indoor Environments Program training.
