Resilience Internship
Achievement/Results
Student internships, typically completed during the first summer of study, continue to be a highlight of the program. Two examples of internships include D.Dayo, a Alaska Native PhD student, who spent the summer with First Nations of Yukon to compare the terms of land claims those of Alaska. C. Fabbri, also an IGERT Fellow, interned with the Yukon Inter-Tribal Watershed Council to develop an “Ecosystem Cycling Plan” that integrated the management objectives with science and traditional knowledge. We attribute the success of the internship to “learning contracts” written beforehand with on-site support people.
Address Goals
Many students report that internships shape their subsequent thesis research and provide insights into the challenges of translating the language of the academy to practitioners.
