Slash-and-burn cultivation in Nepal
Nepali farmers on land that was cut and burned to grow chiraito. They claimed to cut back shrubs and other shading plants annually. The chiraito in this field is in its second year (large basal rosettes). It is the dominant herbaceous plant, but plant diversity here is quite high relative to that on terraced lands used to grow food crops.
