Whole-brain, 3D imaging of neural networks in vivo
3D movies of behaving brains
(a) shows 3D example stills from a light field calcium imaging movie of neurons firing in a brain volume (b) shows neurons extracted from light field movies of a larval zebrafish brain while the fish was shown visual stimuli. Each green ‘blob’ corresponds to a neuron extracted from data similar to that shown in (a), and were found using a novel method for large 4D data (sparse nonnegative GPCA) 3. The purple channel shows the previous state-of-the-art, independent component analysis (ICA) (purple), for comparison. Once found. the activity in each neuron can be monitored over time and related to the visual stimuli 2.
