The butterfly guide: a mobile tool for natural history education and biodiversity informatics
Butterfly identification enters the smartphone era
UC Davis computer science undergraduates Joey Jiron and Bryan Maass work with graduate student Melissa Whitaker to develop a mobile phone app that can be used to aid in butterfly identification. The app, which will be available for free download, also includes information about natural history, ecology, and systematics. Whitaker envisions that it can be used both by butterfly enthusiasts and scientists for projects in citizen science.
