WPI ICREATE: Graduate Training in Innovation Translation
Achievement/Results
NSF-funded research is creating new methods to teach innovation to scientists and engineers. The IGERT team has developed a new education and training program, which are integrated to produce a diverse cadre of future innovative leaders. Our graduates will be able to translate basic discovery research into innovative solutions to unmet medical needs in our global society.
Address Goals
Our primary strategic goals is Discovery. The interdisciplinary research opportunities provided by the IGERT are geared towards producing a diverse cadre of future innovative leaders able to translate basic discovery research into innovative solutions to unmet medical needs in our global society. Our secondary strategic goal is to enhance Learning. New curricula have been developed for the IGERT students. They are participating in modules and courses in innovation, entrepreneurship, translation, and professional development. They also experience a Boot Camp at the start of the program, and can choose between an industrial or international opportunity. These combined activities promote a strong workforce development. In addition, students are engaged in presentations with the business and local community. They are learning to communicate about their scientific discoveries to a non-technical audience.
