UCD IGERT Research Informs Protocols for Community Scale Greenhouse Gas Reporting
Achievement/Results
Participated in a one year, multi-stakeholder advisory committee convened by ICLEI USA to establish greenhouse gas reporting protocols for US cities. The transboundary GHG footprint methodology developed in our IGERT, is now institutionalized in reporting protocols by ICLEI USA for all US cities. This methodology was developed by Professor Ramaswami with IGERT trainee Abel Chavez and a previous PhD student, Tim Hellman.
Address Goals
It involves students and student research, in community outreach to educate cities on their GHG emissions. This links to the primary learning goal, since students learn about research rigor, participatory processes, and communicating research results to broader audiences. It relates to the second goal of advancing the frontiers of knowledge about urban sustainability.
