Achievement

Two RPI IGERT trainees received their PhDs in December 2009 (within this reporting period). Tim Walsh from Electrical Engineering completed his thesis entitled, "Metallic photonic crystals for hermophotovoltaic applications". He accepted a research staff position at Army Research Lab in VA and started the job in January 2010. He received the best student poster award in the Material Research Society in 2008.

Tom Parker from Multidisciplinary Engineering received his PhD in the fall of 2008 with his thesis entitled, "Mechanical resonance of individual nanostructures". He published more than 10 papers as either the first author or a co-author. He received an offer as research staff at Army Research Lab and started working in January, 2010.
