Research of low-cost ceramic water filters
Mr. Larimer has made significant advances in his research of low-cost ceramic water filters. The most important achievement of this progress is the publication of his first peer-reviewed journal article in Materials Characterization. The paper, The segregation of silver nanoparticles in low-cost ceramic water filter, demonstrated a previously unobserved design flaw in the water filters that were investigated and has provided a direction for future research. Another major point of emphasis in the past year was the development of collaboration with Dr. Ricardo de Lima Isaac, of the University of Campinas in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Curtis will spend the first six months of 2010 in Brazil working with collaborators there. Ongoing experimental and laboratory work during the last year was focused on preparation of samples for planned experiments in Brazil.
