Another educational objective is to develop team building as well as hands on laboratory skills. Our Sensor Foundations course requires team collaboration across cohorts. Team building skills were introduced by an external speaker from industry who specializes in team development. From this introduction, this years new cohort assessed their combined skills and came together as a successful team to develop, test, and present to the IGERT exec committee and previous cohorts, a prototype sensor system for detecting room occupancy that would support a room scheduling system.
