Trainees complete MILES required courses
All 35 MILES IGERT-funded trainees have completed the three MILES required courses: Oxidation at the Interface of Chemistry and Biology, Chemistry at the Biology Interface Laboratory, and Grant Writing and Ethics Course as part of their completion for the MILES certificate option. These three classes have been institutionalized and have been incorporated in the Virginia Tech curriculum. The classes are cross-listed in Chemistry, Food Science, and Veterinary Medicine departments. These classes are open to Virginia Tech students interested in the MILES program goals, mission, and theme. In the past year, the majority of students enrolled in the oxidation course and the grant writing and ethics course were not MILES trainees, indicating that the courses are offering value to the university curriculum.
