Research Achievements
Trainees secure positions in academia and industry
Virginia Tech MILES trainee graduates (2009-10) have secured professional positions in academia or industry, in part because of their interdisciplinary training. MILES program internship and visits (National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) federal Lab, Dupont, Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL) have been valuable in these opportunities. MILES trainees, William Miles and Andy Whelton (NIST internship, 2008), are research scientists at NIST. Rebecca Hyuck (ORNL internship, 2008) is a postdoctoral research associate at Polymer Matrix Composites Group, ORNL. Annie Aigster is a postdoctoral research associate as the MILES program manager at Virginia Tech. Several students (Kevin Holland, Sabrina Hannah, Kwaku Gyenai) are in post doctoral positions at Virginia Tech. Sabrina's research, initiated by Janet Webster (MILES alumni, 2006) is sponsored by Dupont. Vinodini Buck is working at Abbot Laboratories in the nutrition and product development division.
