MILES trainees mentor undergraduates
MILES trainees (Matt Green, Mike Allen, David Bryson and Adam Larkin) mentored undergraduate students in their laboratories. They taught polymer synthesis techniques as well as biological assays in cell culture and other life sciences techniques. David Bryson and Adam Larkin also mentored high school students on various laboratory techniques. Steve June helped with recruiting weekends for the Department of Chemistry and Fralin Institute at Virginia Tech, developing contact with potential recruits for the MILES program. Vinodini Buck led the Food Science and Technology product development team. The team was comprised of 12 students. The team was selected as one of the six finalists among 24 entries nationwide to compete at the national meeting. Vinodini was awarded travel grants from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the Washington DC IFT section, and the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) to cover travel expenses for the team students.
