Power sources for smart environment sensors
Conrad Donovan is one of our IGERT trainees from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has research advisers in both Electrical Engineering and in Chemical Engineering who are mentoring him on a multidisciplinary topic. Conrad is designing power sources for our smart environment sensors based on sediment microbial fuel cells. Evidence suggests that these are a renewable power source capable of generating sufficient power for all of our sensors. Conrad has deployed an initial prototype in the Palouse River in Pullman, Washington.
