"Tools for Work" workshop
The 'Tools for Work' Workshop focused on three basic skills; to identify the fundamental cause for a problem and a trans-formative solution, to organize and identify critical task, and to perform problem-solving task. The workshop addressed; stage-gate principles, project management and problem solving. Stage-gate focused on idea, assessment, and proof-of-concept. The fourth stage develops the PhD beneficial applications of the concept. Project Management focused on identifying critical chain and risk issues. Problem solving emphasized TRIZ and workshop module tools. Students were required to develop a plan that met all their degree requirements including courses, lab rotation, research, papers, and thesis. Students were also asked to write a research proposal for grant submission.
