International research experience
For his extended international research experience, trainee Bill Duncan (Philosophy) spent approximately 14 weeks at the University of Essex in Colchester, England, August 28 to December 5, 2009. While there he worked with two professors, Amnon Eden and Raymond Turner, who work on the philosophy of computer science. He met with each weekly (or sometimes twice a week) and discussed articles and readings in philosophy of computer science, particular topics in philosophy of computer science, and critiqued a paper that he was working on. During the period, Duncan's personal research was focused on relating ontology and computer science, and during his time at the University of Essex he wrote two research papers. The comments that he received from professors Eden and Turner were very insightful and helpful for the writing of the paper, and he has submitted one of these papers to the journal Minds and Machines. Currently, the paper is under review.
