Achievement

We have found that trainees need research support funds in addition to stipends in order to conduct their research in China. We have been funding our trainees through two different grants: individual research grants and collaborative grants. The individual research grants are usually used by trainees to initiate their research projects at an earlier time than they would be able to if they were waiting for external research grants. Our executive committee reviews these grants and it has been a good learning process for students to put together these proposals for an interdisciplinary committee. The collaborative grants are to encourage and support our trainees to conduct research in partnership with Chinese colleagues or each other, in order to encourage joint research projects.
