Charge transfer between quantum dots
William Reid has installed and commissioned a system to measure time-resolved emission of photoluminescence from single quantum dots held at cryogenic temperatures. The system can perform spectral analysis (multichannel PL) and filter a narrow and tunable band of energies for time-resolved detection with avalanche photodiodes. The system enables studies of charge transfer between nanostructures with closely spaced energy levels. The system is now being used to study charge transfer between laterally separated InAs quantum dots. The system will soon be applied to study charge transfer in vertically stacked pairs of InAs quantum dots that are a leading candidate for the development of intermediate band solar cells.
