Trainee attends conference on global climate change

IGERT trainee Dale Manning attended an interdisciplinary conference sponsored by The Mountain Institute (TMI) on the impact of global climate change on glaciers, with a focus on the Andes. The conference resulted in recommendations for water use, agriculture, and ecosystem management authored by the alpine researchers, Peruvian government officials, policymakers, and local peoples who participated. Manning subsequently worked with TMI staff to replicate historic photos of glaciers and snow fields to portray to the public how climate change has impacted the Andes from 1960 to the present. He also played a key role in a project that focused on restoring and promoting a part of the Inka trail for sustainable tourism by creating a business plan for investing in the project and demonstrating the benefits of these investments to local communities.
