Possible new technology for diagnosing melanoma
Meghan Vellotti is working on a project that has been particularly effective using a confocal microscope, which takes images beneath the skin at a histological level to compare to those taken with an infrared camera. The infrared camera, which has traditionally had applications in other engineering areas and is now being applied to the prospect of diagnosing melanoma. Meghan's lab is now collaborating with the dermatology department, over at the Hopkins medical campus in order to conduct clinical trials.
