Achievement

Our IGERT has collaborated with the U.S. Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) network to strengthen social-ecological interdisciplinary research at the national level through leadership in mapping of social-ecological processes at about half of the 26 LTER sites across the country. In addition, we have designed and currently lead the social-ecological research at the two Alaskan LTER sites (Bonanza Creek and Arctic). In these two sites we link the study of ecological controls over ecosystem services (the benefits that society receives from ecosystems) to controls over the capacity of indigenous communities to access, use, and share these services. We reported the results of this work at NSF's LTER mini symposium in Washington.
