Trainee organizes teachers forum

Trainee Charlotte Sanders, with the guidance of Prof. Jill Marshall, Curriculum and Education, organized the teachers forum portion of the Summer Nanoscience Academy, a 3 hour workshop on how to teach nanoscience to high school students. The main topics for the forum were a Laboratory Project: Making a Solar Cell, a Classroom Activity: Modeling an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Internet Projects: Microscopy Simulators and Other Resources and Fun Stuff. Teachers received advanced academic credit for their participation. Sanders then gave a talk at the March Meeting of the Texas Section of American Physical Society and American Association of Physics Teachers focusing on the Summer Nanoscience Academy teacher forum. She addressed the important issue of why nanoscience has a place in the high school classroom, as well as why it is not usually presented.
