Achievement

Continuing a program tradition, fellows mentored NSF-REU and other undergraduates. To date, our fellows have mentored 14 undergraduates from 2 and 4-year institutions in the Plant Cell Biology and BioAnalytical Science REU Site Programs. Also, 12 UCR undergraduates have been mentored. These chemistry, biology and computer science undergrads have performed research combining two or three disciplines. The REU students participated in writing and professional development workshops. 2009 REU participants were Pereyra (San Bernardino Valley College, minority, mentored by Jamin), Stutzbach (Beloit College, WI, mentored by Salus), and Silva (Riverside Community College, minority, mentored by Smith). This period, 8 fellows mentored 12 UCR undergraduates including 8 minorities. Several of these students have long-term research projects guided by IGERT fellows.
