Trainees participate in international conference
GLOBES trainees and faculty participated in the "Darwin in the 21st Century: Nature, Humanity and God," an international conference hosted by Notre Dame's Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values in November 2009. The conference explored evolutionary theory in its scientific, anthropological, philosophical, and theological dimensions as a contribution to the 150th anniversary of the publication of the Origin of Species. GLOBES was cosponsor of the closing lecture by British Paleontologist Simon Conway Morris. Morris also met with GLOBES trainees in a small group lunch discussion that provided one-on-one interaction with the noted authority on the Cambrian Explosion. The conference continued the ongoing interdisciplinary dialog among GLOBES biologists, theologians, and social scientists on the public perception and acceptance of evolutionary theory. The Morris lecture was widely advertised resulting in a standing room only crowd of students, faculty and the public.
