New course on Marine Conservation

Topics in Marine Conservation, professor Jeremy Jackson. Most large fish in the ocean have gone due to overfishing, dead zones are on the rise, invasive species have settled in almost every marine eco-region, while global warming and acidification threaten the future of remaining fisheries and coral reefs and other calcifying organisms. All of these drivers interact in complex ways that further exacerbate problems. These problems, and others, reveal the enormity of the challenges facing marine policy makers, conservation practitioners, and citizens.

This course was developed to research available solutions, and make them more visible and move toward available remedies, creative problem solving, and interdisciplinary research. Each week, this class discussed one of these important and innovative questions in marine conservation.
