Modeling species distribution
One key area of interdisciplinary research is modeling of species distribution and response to climate change, involving collaborations among computer scientists (Tom Dietterich, Weng-Keen Wong, Paul Wilkins, Arwen Lettkeman), ecologists (Matt Betts, Julia Jones, Sarah Frey, Phoebe Zarnetske), and mathematicians (Ed Waymire, Max Brugger) in the IGERT. Major accomplishments include the development of multi-species prediction models, which are difficult to tune, but may provide better prediction than single-species model.
