Research Achievements
Trainee develop skills through symposia
IGERT trainees were encouraged to develop their skills in presenting their research through quarterly symposia. These events also frequently lead to new collaborations among students who might not otherwise have met. Student presenters also judged each other's presentations, and the student giving the best talk each quarter was given a travel grant towards attendance at a meeting in their field. Trainees working on projects related to nanomedicine were supported to attend the Annual NCI Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer Investigators' Meeting, and another was supported to attend the 2010 Inter-IGERT Nanoscience and Professional Development Workshop at UT-Austin. All these students reported significant benefit both in terms of bringing new ideas back home and of advertising their own successes.
