Trainee secures post-doc position

BART fellow, Steve Garrity, recently secured a Post-Doc position with Gil Bohrer in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science, at Ohio State University. Garrity's academic background is in the biological sciences. His PhD will be granted this spring from the department of Rangeland Ecology at the University of Idaho. Through his experience in BART he was exposed to the atmospheric sciences and participated in collaborative research with other fellows and colleagues within the atmospheric disciplines. It was the interdisciplinary training of the BART program that assisted him in securing this Post Doc position. His PhD work will involve the use of a large eddy simulation model coupled with lidar-based 3D models of forest canopies to understand how forest canopy structure influences prescribed fire smoke transport, seed dispersal, and evapotranspiration.
