Trainees publish important work
Our IGERT trainees accomplished a number of notable research achievements this last year. Nicole Rohr was co-author on an important review paper on the ecological basis of marine spatial planning. This publication resulted from her IGERT Internship at the Center for Ocean Solutions in Monterey, CA. Trainee Karen Sullivan was one of 30 Ph.D. students worldwide invited to participate in a 3-week advanced workshop on Poverty, Development and Globalization at the Brooks World Poverty Institute at Manchester University in the UK. Trainee Leslie Smith published a paper with her advisor (Professor Candace Oviatt) and Dr. Sandra Whitehouse on climate change impacts on coastal Rhode Island. This was based on work she conducted during her Internship with United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. Trainee Carrie Byron co-authored a paper in Marine Ecology Progress Series with her IGERT Internship host at the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service.
