Trainees take 2nd place in Phase One competition
This past year the QD Tech team consisting of 5 UMass students, three of whom were Nanotechnology IGERT Fellows, Tracy Heckler from Chemical Engineering, Kevin Early from Chemistry and Christopher Scilla from Polymer Science, took 2nd place in Phase One competition, winning $2,000 for its plan to synthesize and market quantum dots, nanoparticles with many potential applications in photovoltaics, optoelectronics and the life sciences. Phase Two of the Innovation Challenge, will take place on May 5, 2009 and QD Tech will be one of four teams competing.
