Organic semiconductor materials
Eric Martin's research involves studying charge transport in organic semiconductor materials. Efficient charge transport in conjugated organic semiconductors underlies the maximum achievable performance in virtually all molecular-based optoelectronic applications. In organic photovoltaic (OPV) applications, charge transport is significantly hindered by the fact that complicated morphologies exist that result in severely diminished device performance. Despite the appeal of OPV materials that promise electrical power at a much lower cost per watt than traditional inorganic PV materials, the barriers for moving beyond current performance plateaus arising from inefficient charge transport have limited the commercial viability of these systems. Eric's research is focused on understanding the fundamental structure-property relationships that govern key electronic processes responsible for photocurrent generation.
