Trainee becomes leader in AHRC
Trainee Elizabeth Walsh has become a leader in Austin's Housing Repair Coalition (AHRC), a group of over 17 organizations committed to improving indoor environmental quality and resource-efficiency of low-income housing, the general focus of her dissertation research. In 2010, AHRC was honored as the best collaborative effort in the City of Austin. Elizabeth was elected Vice-Chair of AHRC for the coming year. She also works with the nonprofit 1 House at a Time to incorporate healthy homes education in their weatherization work. Importantly, they intend to use green and healthy weatherization brochures developed by several IGERT trainees as a project in our IGERT Technical Exchange course. Elizabeth also submitted two white papers to NSF's call for papers on grand challenges in the Social Behavioral Economic Sciences. One of these papers outlined a call to action on Home Ecology, referencing the importance of indoor air quality and trans-disciplinary research in this area.
