IGERT trainees use R to explore gene expression
As a component of one of our core courses, entitled Functional Genomics, we've developed a hands-on section where students learn the R statistical programming language as well how to use a number of statistical packages for looking at gene expression using microarray data. All the students master the assignment, some finding patterns of gene expression not reported by the original authors of the data. One student is now working on a manuscript to publish the results of her analysis.
