Trainees conduct interdisciplinary research

Two of our IGERT trainees, Robin Van Meter and Melanie Harrison, graduated with their Ph.Ds this reporting period. Dr. Van Meter's research examines the effects of road salts on stormwater pond ecosystems. Dr. Van Meter's research crosses interdisciplinary boundaries where skills in ecology, ecotoxicology and hydrology are relevant. Dr. Harrison's research evaluates the role of wetlands and remnant engineered floodplain features in reducing nitrogen loads within urban restored stream ecosystems. Dr. Harrison's research has demonstrated attainment of an interdisciplinary perspective by working in complex urban environments where skills in ecology, hydrology, biogeochemistry, and geomorphology are relevant.
