Book on birds in China
One of our trainees, Jodi Brandt, is producing a book, a "Handbook to the Most Common Birds in Shangri-la," designed for local people and visiting Chinese and international tourists, who want to know the most common birds around Shangri-la and where one would go to see them. The “Handbook to the Common Birds of Shangri-la” will be a field guide/pocket-size book, in Chinese, English and Tibetan. The book will have approximately 50 of the most common birds around this area, and will include photographs and a short description of habits/habitat for each species. The book will also include a CD of bird songs for each species. The book will be widely distributed. They will provide copies to local schools to foment environmental appreciation at the local level. In addition, the books will be distributed to local bookstores, tour agencies, businesses, etc., with the stipulation that it would be sold quite cheaply (e.g. 20 RMB), so that it would be accessible to locals and visitors alike.
