Membrane protein dynamics
Patrick Cutler is working on obtaining a better understanding of membrane protein dynamics. The main method that he uses is single-particle tracking of membrane proteins labeled with quantum dots (QDs). The INCBN IGERT has been vital in Patrick's understanding of QD synthesis, bio-conjugation, and properties. He is currently developing a high speed hyperspectral line scanning microscope for single-particle tracking of multiple colors of QDs simultaneously. This project has provided him the opportunity to work in a very interdisciplinary environment with cell biology and biophysics.
