Achievement

The Summer Nanoscience Academy is offered as a means to provide high school and middle school teachers and students with a better understanding and hands on experience in the field of nanoscience. For the past 3 years, the program coordinator has planned the Summer Nanoscience Academy. We asked the trainees to plan and implement the 4th annual Summer Nanoscience Academy this year. 5 trainees formed a committee and worked with the program coordinator to plan the agenda for the 3-day. The agenda included talks by trainees and they added activities that followed to demonstrate concepts. There was more one-to-one interaction to make sure participants understood the concepts and activities. The teacher forum portion of the program was led by one of our trainees, who included many useful materials and demonstrations to bring back to their classrooms. The resulting program was well received and included more hands on experiments, more trainee led talks and demonstrations.
