Modeling the transport of sperm cells
IGERT Associate Tom Scherr has simulated the performance of a micro-fluidic mixer design and worked towards determining what mechanisms are driving the mixer at various operating conditions. During the next phase of his research he will be modeling the transport of sperm cells in the microfluidic mixer and their influence on its performance. To this end he will be using Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) with Discrete Particle Modeling (DPM). The project is a collaboration with experimentalists from the LSU Biological Engineering Department under the supervision of Professor Monroe.
