Summer science program for middle schoolers
GLOBES IGERT Trainee Peter Levi served as program director for the "Sensing Our World" summer science program, July 2010. Sensing Our World encourages STEM education and careers by bringing 40 middle school students to the campus of the University of Notre Dame for one week every summer. With 2010 theme of "Global Health," Levi organized Notre Dame faculty and staff to present hands-on sessions demonstrating various scientific concepts and tools and their use in the field of global health. He also developed curriculum and taught several lessons while mentoring four undergraduate teaching assistants. Levi was also invited to give opening remarks at the University of Notre Dame's Human Development Conference (Feb 2011), attended by graduate and undergraduate students from across the United States. He spoke on the importance and value of research to education at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
