Achievement

We offer a 1-credit colloquium that all fellows attend weekly during most of their PhD program. The students have inspired a variety of formats since its inception. In Fall 2010, the students read an NSF Bio-Complexity proposal and many of the resulting publications. The students not only learned about the particular topic and critical evaluation of the scientific aspects, but also developed professional skills regarding proposal conception and implementation. A PI visited UF, gave a seminar, and spent several days interacting with students and faculty. In Spring 2011, students presented their research and then worked in small groups to develop solutions to posed problems. The students were very enthusiastic about the activity and felt that the proposed solutions contributed to their projects and skills and helped highlight interdisciplinary opportunities.
