Science filmmaking course leads to award winning film
The Program conducted a science filmmaking course from May 22nd – 31st, 2011. The main purpose of the course was to teach students multimedia communication skills. One film, titled For the Love of Turtles, co-produced by Nora Alvarez, won first place in the Short-films Festival of the San Juan Estuary Program held in San Juan Puerto Rico. The film exposed the problems that marine turtles had during their nesting season and how people get involved to help them. The documentary records footage from areas like Maunabo, one of the major sea turtle nesting sites in Puerto Rico. The film, and the IGERT project, were recognized in: http://www.prdailysun.com/news/San-Juan-Estuary-recognizes-filmmakers
