Trainee mentors undergrads

Two undergraduate researchers in the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering were mentored by Trainee Erin Tush, who has been studying nutrient absorption of specific trees. Their research hopes to use the upscaling ideas based in the MCS IGERT to relate nutrient absorption of individual plants to the effects on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Ultimately, this effort will help to identify optimal tree plantings to preserve water quality in the Bay. Erin has provided personal assistance to the undergraduate researchers throughout the semester, and she has found this to be very useful in her own research. This mentorship of undergraduates has been strongly encouraged by the MCS IGERT, and we hope that Erin's success will encourage other Trainees to work with undergraduates in their own research.
