Achievement

The Density Functional Theory (DFT) seminar, lead by Dr. Maosheng Miao, was initiated this past Winter for IGERT Trainees. The 5-part seminar introduced trainees to DFT and potential applications to assist in their research. The series detailed how to get the most from DFT calucations using Gaussian software and how to use UCSB available servers to run calculations. Several IGERT Fellows are currently using DFT to model energetic profiles of newly synthesized materials and many more have commented on how they are looking forward to incorporating DFT into their research.
