Collaborative Amazon research used in dissertations

In their dissertation research, Katie Roach and Nick Jacobsen are conducting collaborative field research in the Peruvian Amazon to evaluate the effects of gold mining and mercury contamination on aquatic food webs. Nick Jacobsen gave a presentation comparing experiences from two conservation projects at the monthly meeting for the TAMU chapter of the Society of Conservation Biology. The second half of the presentation focused on the ongoing work he is doing with Katie Roach. Katie Roach created a blog about river science which includes current news articles about rivers (e.g., hydrofracking), information about research currently done in the Winemiller lab at Texas A&M University, and information about study abroad courses that can be taken in river science (http://riverecology.wordpress.com/).
