Study Abroad Course at Amazon Field School
The Amazon Field School was approved for the second year as an official Study Abroad Course offered for credit. Three instructors, Stronza, Brightsmith, and Fitzgerald taught it during May 2010 and again in May 2011. The course includes participation by doctoral students and undergraduate students. We also invited an Argentine doctoral fellow of CONICET, Marcelo Bonino, to participate in 2011. The three week course introduces social and ecological complexities of biodiversity conservation in tropical ecosystems. Students are exposed to a variety of field methods from the biological and social sciences to evaluate the causes, consequences, and solutions to biodiversity loss through the lenses of ecology, culture, and governance. Syllabus and photos available on ABS website: Http://biodiversity.tamu.edu.
