Nanoscale science brought to high school
IGERT trainee, Danielle Reifsnyder and advisor Dr. Chris Murray, collaborated with two-time NSF funded RET-Nano participant Madeline Fenner, to bring nanoscale science to Camden Academy Charter High School. During the school year, Danielle and Chris traveled to Camden Academy for on-site work with Ms. Fenner's class. This included engaging activities involving the study of gold and silver nanoparticles and their applications in renewable energy areas, such as solar technology. This has resulted in strengthening the relationship between the Drexel/Penn community and Camden Academy considerably. Examples of this include chemistry lab tours on Penn's campus for Ms. Fenner and her class, student opportunities to operate a transmission electron microscope and observe nanoparticles first hand. This collaboration also strengthens the relationship between the NSF IGERT and the NSF RET programs at both Drexel and the University of Pennsylvania.
