Atmospheric nitrogen deposition
Justin Poinsatte's initial results indicate that atmospheric nitrogen deposition is a primary source of nitrogen in developing ecosystems on Mt. St. Helens and biological nitrogen fixation becomes important only later in succession. Justin's future research will expand to quantify the impact of atmospheric deposition originating from the Seattle metropolitan area on mountain ecosystems in the Cascade Range.
